Advent 2011 :: day 21/22 :: Father Christmas Letters

Dear Father Christmas... and so begins the yearly letter to Father Christmas, to be written, placed in the mailbox, and then to go to bed with expectations of what might come. Father Christmas always writes back, and in the morning the kids can't wait to find out what has happened that year at the North Pole. FC also hides a "doing" gift somewhere in the house (this year's clue was something about being in a spot "they haven't been thinking about this week" - ie., the school room!). The kid dash about and see what FC and his Polar Bear have brought this year... (and this year it was a mandala kit, a favorite coloring book, and Monopoly Deal).

This was a bittersweet year for the big kids. Without a doubt, they are on to the gig. While Sage blithely wonders how FC gets around, and if he knows what kind of doll it is she wants, Sterling and Siena know exactly what's going on. And yet, once Siena in particular had gotten over the disappointment in discovering that FC seems a staggeringly great deal like a fairy mum, their enthusiasm is nearly what Sage's is, and they gamely write their letters and giggle their way through the response. I suspect that being "in on it" is nearly as fun. I know I think it is.
