Christmas 2011 :: Merry and Bright

from the moment they woke up (waiting, as they were, with extreme patience and very, very loud whispers of excitement), it was a day totally merry and bright. Footsteps leaping downstairs. Gasps of delight that the stockings were actually filled. Giggles and proclamations as the aforementioned stockings were totally emptied and thoroughly enjoyed. A brief pause to have eggs and toast before diving right back into the thick of a blessed Christmas tree. Grandpa Mark arriving with yet more surprises and treats, and the fun begins all over again. Presents... presents... a break again for our annual Christmas morning treat of smoothies and cinnamon buns. Wrapping paper flying, bows tucked carefully away for next year (we take the "reuse" part of the three r's seriously here, as the kids announce with their "I remember this paper/bow/bag from last year!"), scissors at the ready to free the poor imprisoned toys from their plastic chains. Another break just to enjoy the goodies so far discovered. Gifts from Gramma, from Grandpa, from mom and dad... gifts that we didn't expect and those we hoped for. A bigger break, when they thought it was over, for a leisurely fondue lunch (this was very, very fun, even if only the parents really enjoyed the cheeses). And then more surprised emerging from upstairs, yet one more "just what I wanted!" and "Wow! I can't believe I got that!" before everyone scattered to nap/play/pogo/puzzle/read and delight yet more. Leftover snacks for dinner, and a quiet family time reading the Word and pondering it in our hearts, like Mary. Thinking on the greatest gift we receive, each and every morning, mercy and grace. Ready for bed but still buzzing with excitement. Wearing our Christmas pajamas to bed, flushed with thankfulness and overcome with gifts. Sleep, blessed sleep, resting in the One who provides all.

Merry, merry Christmas.
